The home ground of Dundee United sits on the edge of Tayport, a modest football stadium that punches above its weight on match days. Tannadice Park has that authentic feel you get from grounds that have actually been played in rather than designed by committee - narrow streets around it, tight parking, the sort of place where you bump into supporters in the chippy beforehand.

Unless you're catching a match, there's not much to detain you for hours. The stadium tours aren't always available, and without a game on it's just a building. But if you're a football fan or dragging along someone who is, there's genuine atmosphere when United are playing. The crowds are vocal, the noise properly bounces off the stands. It's smaller than the big Scottish grounds, which somehow makes it feel more connected - you're closer to the action than you'd be at Ibrox or Pittodrome.

Based near one of the caravan parks in the area - Tayport Links or Larick are both nearby - it makes sense as an afternoon outing if someone in your group is into their football. Check the fixture list first though. Showing up on a quiet Tuesday expecting something to happen will only disappoint. Match days are when this place comes alive. The town itself is quiet, a bit worn in places, but the football community is genuinely welcoming. Worth timing your visit around a home game if you can.
