The setting around Conwy is dramatic enough that the effort to reach it feels worthwhile, though it's not a destination that'll keep the average family entertained for hours. You're looking at an hour or so to poke about, take some photos, and absorb the industrial heritage. Kids might find the shaft itself interesting in a morbid way - "people actually went down there?" - but there's no visitor centre, no interpretation boards, no café. It's just you and a hole in the ground.

If you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks - Golden Sands or Parkdean Resorts Ty Mawr are the closest options, both within six miles - it makes a decent half-day excursion. Pair it with a walk along the coast or a visit to Rhyl if the weather turns. Free admission, naturally, since there's nowhere to pay. Go when the ground's dry; after rain this gets muddy and awkward.
