Talargoch Lead Mine - Old Workings

The lead workings at Talargoch are properly industrial archaeology - the kind of place that rewards a bit of scrambling about and genuine curiosity. You're picking your way through the remains of a Victorian-era mine operation just outside Rhyl, with old stone structures, spoil heaps, and the occasional glint of the original ore seams if you know where to look. It's free to access and demands maybe ninety minutes if you're thorough, though an hour suffices if you're just having a look around.

You'll see where miners extracted lead ore that fed into the North Wales industry, and the landscape tells its own story - weathered walls, drainage channels, the way the earth has been torn up and reorganised around human effort. Families with older kids who aren't easily bored will find it interesting, though there's no visitor infrastructure or interpretation boards, so you'll need to bring your own sense of detective work.

Weather matters here. Wet days make the site muddy and the stone slippery. Spring or autumn work best - dry enough underfoot, but the ground hasn't been baked hard. Bring proper boots.
