Swinbatch Wood

The woodland around Craven Arms doesn't shout for attention - there's no visitor centre, no marked trails, just trees and the sort of quiet you don't get many places anymore. Swinbatch Wood is proper forest, the kind where you actually feel removed from the world despite being minutes from a market town.

What you get here is straightforward: walking. There's no infrastructure to speak of, which sounds like a downside until you realise it means no crowds either. The paths wind through decent woodland with enough variation to keep things interesting for an hour or two. It's muddy when wet - very muddy - but that's half the appeal if you're after an actual woodland experience rather than a sanitised trail.

Families with older kids who can handle uneven terrain will find it worthwhile. Young children might get bored quickly without proper paths and signage. Walkers come here to breathe, not to tick boxes. Bring proper boots and expect to work out where you're going.
