Swan Pool

The water here is calm and clear, ringed by trees that lean in as if keeping secrets. Swan Pool sits just outside Launceston, a proper little lake that feels worlds away from the bustle of the town itself. It's the kind of place where you can actually hear birdsong without straining, and on a quiet morning you might spot the namesake swans doing their thing - though they're not always obliging for photos.

This is straightforward stuff: a walk around the perimeter, maybe a sit by the water, a bit of birdwatching if you're into that sort of thing. It won't take hours. Most people do the circuit in under an hour, which means it works brilliantly as a morning outing before heading elsewhere, or a wind-down at the end of the day. The paths are easy going, so families with younger kids manage fine, though there's not a great deal to actually do once you've had a look around.

It's free, naturally, and there's no formal visitor infrastructure that I'm aware of - just you, the water, and whatever wildlife decides to show up. If you're staying at Trewithen Farm Glamping or Ekopod just down the road, it's worth the short drive for a gentle stretch of the legs. Don't expect drama or sweeping views. What you get is quiet, which these days feels rather valuable.
