Swan & Duck Feeding Area

You'll find this feeding area tucked near Windsor, where the water attracts proper flocks of swans and ducks. It's the sort of place that looks deceptively simple until you're actually there watching the birds jostling for bread and seed - then it becomes surprisingly absorbing, especially for younger kids who haven't yet tired of the novelty.

The appeal is straightforward. Bring a bag of suitable feed (the shop-bought stuff meant for waterfowl, not old bread) and spend twenty minutes or so watching the birds cluster around you. The swans are bold, almost aggressive in their confidence. The ducks are quicker, more chaotic. It's free, takes minimal effort, and requires no planning beyond grabbing some feed on your way.

Who gets the most from it? Toddlers and early primary school kids, certainly. They're entertained by the directness of it all. Teenagers will be bored within minutes unless they're genuinely interested in bird behaviour. Adults with cameras might linger longer, chasing decent shots of the swans in profile.

If you're based at Queens Acre or one of the other nearby caravan parks - all within a few miles - this works as a quick morning diversion rather than a main event. Combine it with a proper walk along the Thames or a visit to Windsor town itself. Don't build a day around it. Allow thirty minutes maximum, and go early morning or late afternoon when the light's better and crowds are thinner.
