Summer Hill

Standing at just over 350 metres, this lesser-known summit on the northern edge of the Malvern Hills delivers proper panoramic views without the crowds that swarm neighbouring peaks. The climb from the Malvern side takes about 45 minutes through woodland and open grassland - steep in places but manageable for anyone with reasonable fitness.

Families with older children will find this a rewarding half-day walk, though the ascent might be a bit much for little legs. The summit itself is fairly exposed, so wrap up even on mild days. What makes Summer Hill special is the 360-degree vista taking in the Severn Valley, Welsh borders, and the Cotswolds on clear days.

Unlike the more famous Worcestershire Beacon, you'll often have this spot largely to yourself, especially midweek. The descent can be tricky when wet, so proper walking boots are essential.
