Sugarloaf Hill

Climbing this modest 1,200-foot peak takes about 45 minutes from the car park near Malvern, but the panoramic views across three counties make every step worthwhile. The western face drops away dramatically, giving you proper dramatic shots of the Welsh borders rolling into the distance.

Families with older children will manage the ascent fine - it's steep in places but nothing too challenging. Dog walkers love it here, though keep them on leads near the summit as the drops are genuine. The path can get muddy after rain, so proper walking boots are essential.

What sets Sugarloaf apart from its more famous Malvern Hills neighbours is the relative peace. While the Worcestershire Beacon draws crowds, this spot often feels like your own private viewing platform. Early morning visits are particularly rewarding when mist clings to the valleys below.

The hill forms part of the southern end of the Malvern Hills range, making it a cracking warm-up if you're planning to tackle the bigger peaks. Free parking is available at the base, though spaces fill quickly on sunny weekends.

Staying at nearby Malvern Hills Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite puts you within easy striking distance, while Blackmore Camping offers another solid base for exploring the entire ridge. Allow half a day including the walk and some summit lounging time.
