Stubbock Hill

The walk up Stubbock Hill from Grantham takes about twenty minutes if you're not in a rush, and it's genuinely one of the better viewpoints in Lincolnshire - which, let's be honest, isn't saying much when you're surrounded by flat fenland. What makes it worth the effort is the perspective you get across the Witham Valley. Clear days are proper rewarding; you can see for miles across farmland that rolls in a way the landscape rarely does round here.

It's a straightforward walk, nothing technical, so families with older kids will manage it fine. Younger children might find it a bit samey once they're up there - there's no café, no facilities, just grass and views. History buffs might appreciate that you're looking out over territory that shaped medieval Lincolnshire, though there's precious little signage to tell you what you're actually looking at.

Going free is the main attraction, frankly. Allow an hour return if you're stopping to take photos or just breathe in the space. It's best visited outside peak tourist season when you might actually have the place to yourself.

If you're staying at Wagtail Country Park just down the road, this makes a decent morning outing before heading back for lunch. It won't consume your holiday, but it's a solid addition to a Grantham-based trip without any faff or cost.
