Strayerpark Plantation

Walk into Strayerpark Plantation and you're immediately swallowed by proper woodland - tall conifers mostly, with that distinctive carpet of needles underfoot that muffles everything. It's the sort of forest that feels a world away from the rolling farmland around Launceston, even though you're only minutes from town.

You're here to walk, really. The paths wind through the trees in a way that feels genuinely peaceful rather than manicured. Dogs do well here, kids don't get bored for a good hour or so, and if you're the type who just wants to clear your head without the fuss of a massive nature reserve, this delivers. There's nothing showy about it - no visitor centre, no café, no interpretive boards explaining the ecological importance of Sitka spruce. Just forest.

It suits a woodland stomp between longer days out. If you're based at Trewithen Farm Glamping or Ekopod just down the road, this works perfectly as a morning activity before heading to Launceston proper for lunch. The ground can get boggy in winter, so pick your timing if you care about keeping boots clean. Allow an hour minimum, though you could happily lose two hours in here if you've got time.

Free to access, naturally - there's no gate or barrier, just pull in and go. It's the kind of place that reminds you why people bother holidaying in Cornwall beyond the beaches.
