Stowborrow Hill

The climb up Stowborrow Hill rewards you with proper views across the Bristol Channel and back towards Watchet's coastal sprawl. It's not a massive undertaking - the walk takes about forty minutes from the nearest car park - but the gradient does bite on the legs.

What you're getting is a modest Somerset peak that locals clearly know well but tourists often miss. The summit itself is fairly bare, nothing dramatic, but on a clear day the vista stretches far enough to justify the effort. The Quantocks rise away to the south, and if you squint you can pick out Wales across the water. Families with older kids will manage it fine; anything under eight might find the uphill stretch tedious without proper incentive.

The real value here is as part of a wider ramble around the Watchet area. You're close enough to the coastal holiday parks - Doniford Bay is barely two miles away - to make this a natural morning walk before heading down to the seafront. Moorhouse Campsite at 2.6 miles also serves as a reasonable base if you're staying put for a few days.

There's no entrance fee, no facilities at the top, so bring water and wear decent boots because the path gets boggy after rain. Autumn and spring work best - summer can draw day-trippers and muddy the experience, whilst winter wind makes the exposed summit rather unpleasant. Allow three hours if you're taking your time and exploring the ridgeline either side.
