It's free to look at from outside the barrier, which costs nothing and requires no booking. You'll share the space with coach parties and solitary pilgrims. Weekday early mornings are noticeably calmer. Bring waterproof; the wind across the plain is relentless. Allow an hour if you're genuinely curious, thirty minutes if you just want the photos.

History types will spend longer reading the interpretation boards scattered about. Families with restless children might find it underwhelming - there's no hands-on element, just walking and looking. Walkers doing the Salisbury-to-Stonehenge trails will find it a natural waypoint. It connects well with a park-based holiday at Brades Acre Camp Site, just six miles away, making a decent morning excursion before returning for the day.

The truth? It's worth an hour of your time. Whether it justifies the trip alone depends entirely on what else you're doing in Wiltshire.
