Stoke Albany Golf Course

The rolling greens at Stoke Albany sit just outside Market Harborough, and if you're any good at golf, you'll spend a proper afternoon here. It's a members' course primarily, though visiting golfers can usually arrange a round if you've got the right credentials and book ahead. The layout uses the Leicestershire countryside to good effect - expect gently undulating fairways, mature trees lining the holes, and enough water hazards to keep you honest. Nine holes or eighteen, depending on what you fancy.

This is firmly one for the golfers. Non-players will find nothing much to do, and honestly, even keen amateurs might find it a bit frustrating if the course is playing firm. The greens can be tricky, and the rough doesn't offer much mercy. Best visited mid-week if you can manage it - weekends get busy with the membership.

It's well-positioned if you're basing yourself at Get Lost In Nature just down the road, or Rural Relaxing a touch further out. Both parks give you quick access to Market Harborough's town amenities, and Stoke Albany fits nicely into a longer ramble around the Vale of Belvoir. Allow three to four hours for a full round, less for nine holes. Phone ahead before you visit - visitor terms vary by season and membership availability.
