Stockton Top Marina

The canal basin at Stockton Top is where the Oxford Canal opens up into something almost respectable. Moored narrowboats line the water's edge, their painted hulls reflected in still water most days, and there's a genuine working marina feel to the place rather than just a scenic photo stop. You'll see boat owners tending their vessels, the occasional barge moving through, and a decent stretch of towpath that actually invites you to walk rather than rush past.

This is walker territory first and foremost. The towpath here connects to broader canal routes, so you can easily clock a few miles along the water. Families with young kids will get a solid hour out of it - spotting ducks, watching boats, maybe following the path to see where it goes. Older children and adults interested in inland waterways will find it more absorbing, particularly if they time it around boat movements. The marina itself isn't a destination with facilities or attractions clustered around it; it's pure waterside access, which is either exactly what you want or not quite enough depending on your trip.

Rowing in from Rugby (the nearest proper town), Stockton Top works well as part of a broader canal afternoon rather than a standalone outing. If you're based at Holt Farm Campsite three and a half miles away, it's a realistic walk or very short drive, making it a decent leg-stretcher between camping and exploring the rest of Warwickshire. Best visited outside school holidays when the towpath doesn't feel quite so packed.
