Draycote Water Country Park

A vast reservoir just south of Rugby, Draycote Water is one of those places that catches you off guard with how much there is to do. The water itself is the real draw - 600 acres of it, hemmed by walking trails that loop around the entire perimeter and smaller paths cutting through the surrounding woodland. You'll see herons, cormorants, and if you're lucky, various warblers depending on the season. Birdwatchers will absolutely rate this place, particularly during migration periods. The main visitor centre gives you the lay of the land, and from there you can tackle anything from a gentle twenty-minute stroll to a proper three-hour circuit. It's free to access and open year-round, which means you can roll up whenever suits. Families with restless kids do well here - the water views change constantly, and there's enough going on (spot the birds, count the boats, find the best picnic spot) to keep things interesting. Winter visits are surprisingly good; fewer crowds and clearer sightings of wintering waterfowl. Allow at least two hours if you're doing more than a quick walk. It's a natural fit with the nearby caravan parks - Lairhillock, Eriba Glade, and Holt Farm all sit within easy driving distance, making this a solid addition to a Warwickshire park break. Worth it for the walking alone, but genuinely special if you've got binoculars.
