Stob na Doire

The walk up Stob na Doire isn't particularly famous, which means you'll likely have the mountainside to yourself. It's a proper Highland peak near Kinlochleven, rising to 1,010 metres, and the approach is straightforward enough for anyone with basic hill sense.

You park near Kinlochleven and head up through moorland and rough grass - it's not technical, but the ground is boggy in places and the Scottish weather has a habit of turning on you without warning. Allow three to four hours for the round trip if you're a regular walker; longer if you prefer a steady pace. The views from the top sweep across the Mamores and towards Ben Nevis when conditions allow. Some days you'll get nothing but cloud; that's just Scotland being Scotland.

This is a decent outing for experienced hill walkers rather than families with young kids. The path isn't maintained and there's no café waiting at the summit - just proper mountain. If you're camping or glamping in the area, Red Squirrel Campsite (4.8-star rating) sits 6 miles away and makes a solid base for a few days' hillwalking. Blackwater Hostel is closer at 5.5 miles if you want shared facilities.

Worth the walk? Yes, if you like solitude and don't mind rough ground. The peak itself won't stop you in your tracks, but as part of a broader Highland climbing trip around Kinlochleven, it slots in well. Go early if you want any chance of clear views.
