Stob Coire Bhuidhe

The walk up Stob Coire Bhuidhe isn't a casual stroll, but it rewards properly prepared hillwalkers with proper Arrochar views. You're looking at a decent scramble from the valley floor - roughly 900 metres of elevation gain - with sections that demand you use your hands as well as your feet, especially on the final push to the summit.

The whole thing takes three to four hours depending on your fitness and how careful you want to be on the loose scree. Starting from Arrochar village, you'll head into glen country with the Cobbler and other peaks drawing your eye across the valley. The landscape opens up gradually, giving you reason to pause for breath even before the scrambling sections kick in.

This one's for walkers who know what they're doing. If you're relatively experienced with hillwalking in the Scottish Lowlands, you'll find it absorbing and genuinely technical in places. Families with young kids or casual day-trippers will struggle - it's not a "bit of a hike" kind of afternoon.

If you're camping at Beinglas Campsite nearby, Stob Coire Bhuidhe makes a cracking full-day outing. The weather can change brutally fast in this corner of Stirling, so decent boots, waterproofs, and a map are non-negotiable. Summer months offer the longest daylight and most stable conditions, though spring and autumn can be lovely if you time it right.

Well worth the effort if you're serious about Scottish peaks.
