Stanley Park

You get woodland walks, open grassland, and reed beds where you might spot herons and other wetland birds if you're lucky with the light. It's the kind of place where an hour disappears without you noticing, especially if you wander the main paths properly rather than just cutting through.

Families with young kids will find enough space to let them run about, though there's nothing in the way of formal play equipment - it's nature, not a theme park. The paths are flat and accessible, which counts for something in Lancashire. A solid two hours is the sweet spot; any longer and you're just looping the same routes.
