Standard

Standard sits at 1,155 metres on the edge of the Pennines, due north of Skipton. It's a proper fell walk rather than a casual stroll - you're looking at a decent hike across moorland with views that stretch right across the Yorkshire Dales when conditions are decent. The actual summit is unremarkable in the way many northern peaks are: no structures, no café, just moorland and stone.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's the sort of walk where you want an Ordnance Survey map and decent boots, not a guide book. The ascent from Catgill Farm side is straightforward enough, but the weather up here changes fast, so don't assume a clear morning means a clear afternoon. Allow three to four hours depending on fitness and which route you take.

There's free access to the fell itself - no admission charge. Parking's informal at various points near the base, though it's worth checking current conditions before you head out, especially in winter.

Standard works well as part of a longer Dales walking holiday. Bolton Abbey Estate Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite sits just 2.1 miles away and gives you a proper base for tackling multiple peaks in the area. Catgill Farm's closer still at 1.7 miles if you want something smaller. The fell rewards good weather and proper planning rather than casual visits.
