The church sits quietly on the edge of Pevensey, a solid red-brick Victorian structure that feels more substantial than its modest surroundings might suggest. St Wilfrid's is genuinely worth a detour if you're interested in 19th-century Anglican architecture - the interior has that satisfying mix of pitch-pine pews, decent stained glass, and the kind of peace you only get in a properly maintained parish church that's still properly used.

It's not a showstopper like some medieval cathedrals, but that's precisely why it works. The craftsmanship is honest rather than showy. You'll spend twenty minutes inside, maybe thirty if you're reading the memorials and having a quiet sit-down. Families with restless kids might find it brief, though older children interested in local history will get something from it.

The real appeal comes if you're basing yourself at one of the nearby campsites - Fontmills Farm, Golden Cross, or Hale Farm are all within a few miles - and want to explore Pevensey properly. The church fits neatly into a morning's wandering around the town, particularly the Norman castle ruins which are the main draw. It's free to visit, and there's usually someone around to unlock if the door's closed.

Go on a weekday morning if you can. You'll have the place to yourself, and the light through the windows is proper lovely.
