St Teresa's Church

The Catholic cathedral of Armagh City dominates the skyline from almost everywhere you stand in town, and St Teresa's is a proper example of Victorian Gothic done right. Built in the 1870s, the church sits on the hill with a commanding presence - all red brick, pointed arches, and that spire that catches your eye from the car park at Markethill five miles away.

Inside it's surprisingly intimate despite the scale. The altar catches light beautifully in the afternoons, and the stained glass work is genuinely worth looking at rather than just walking past. If you're into ecclesiastical architecture or Victorian craftsmanship, you'll spend a good twenty minutes properly absorbed. Casual visitors? Half that.

It's free to wander in during opening hours, though these aren't prominently posted anywhere - local sense suggests calling ahead if you're making a special trip. The church works best as part of a broader Armagh afternoon rather than a standalone expedition. St Teresa's complements a walk through the Georgian centre and a visit to the planetarium if you've got children in tow.

Nearby Tepee Valley Campsite sits just four miles out, which is an excellent base for exploring this corner of Armagh. The park gives you access to both the town's attractions and the quieter countryside without being marooned. Worth the short drive, particularly if you're spending a night or two in the area and want to tick off the local ecclesiastical sights properly.
