The factory tour takes you through the production line where they make those familiar blue packets of crisps - you'll see potatoes being sliced, fried, seasoned, and packaged at speed. It's genuinely fascinating for about twenty minutes, then the novelty wears thin unless you're really into manufacturing processes.

Kids tend to enjoy it more than adults, mainly because there's a gift shop at the end and you usually get a free packet of crisps. The actual viewing area is functional rather than fancy - you're behind glass looking down at machinery and workers. Don't expect Disney-level theatre or interactive exhibits. School groups come here regularly, which tells you something about its appeal to younger visitors.

The tour itself is free or costs very little (check ahead as opening times and pricing aren't consistent), and you should allow about an hour including the shop. It's not a standalone day out, but if you're based at Tepee Valley Campsite nearby and the weather's dodgy, it fills a gap.
