St Rumon

The church sits on a quiet lane between Helston and Mawgan, easy to miss if you're not looking for it. St Rumon's is a proper medieval affair - 15th century mostly, with that solid Cornish granite look that's held up remarkably well. Inside, it's genuinely peaceful. There's decent medieval stonework, a few interesting monuments, and the kind of light that only gets into churches where nobody's rushing about.

It's worth a twenty-minute stop rather than a destination in itself. Walkers will appreciate it as a waypoint between Helston's town centre and the surrounding countryside, and anyone interested in local church architecture won't be disappointed by the detail work. There's no visitor infrastructure - no café, no gift shop, no car park - so you're not looking at a grand day out. But that's rather the point.

For families camped at Henry's Camp Site, it's close enough for a brief explore on the way to somewhere else. The Secret Garden Glamping is a bit further out, but still within striking distance if you're interested in seeing what rural Cornish churches actually look like without the tourist polish. Free to enter, no set hours to worry about - just turn up. Best in the morning when light comes through the windows properly. Rain doesn't ruin it; if anything, it adds to the atmosphere. Gives you something real to see while based in the Helston area, not another pottery workshop or tourist trap.
