St Paul's

The cathedral dominates Leicester's skyline from pretty much every approach into the city centre. St Paul's isn't ancient by English cathedral standards - the current building dates from the 1890s - but it commands real presence, all red sandstone and Victorian gothic swagger.

Inside, it's genuinely impressive. The soaring nave, the stained glass, the sheer verticality of the space - it works on you without being showy about it. There's proper craftsmanship on display here, from the carved stone to the decorative tilework. Worth allowing an hour if you like taking time to look properly at the details, though twenty minutes is enough if you're just passing through.

It's free to wander in during visiting hours (ring ahead to check, as opening times can be variable). You'll find it right in the heart of Leicester, near the High Street and the clock tower, so it slots easily into a city centre walk. Families won't struggle - kids tend to respond to the sheer scale of it, though the atmosphere is respectful enough that you won't feel rushed.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Fox's Furrow or Green Acres are both within five miles - the cathedral makes for a quick cultural stop without needing a major detour. Pair it with Leicester's market and the Richard III visitor centre for a decent morning in town. Not earth-shattering, but well worth the brief visit if you're in the area.
