St Patrick's RC Church

The twin spires of St Patrick's are impossible to miss rising above Armagh's skyline - they've been there since 1840, dominating the city from the moment you arrive. This is a proper Roman Catholic cathedral, grand in that Victorian way, with soaring stone work and ornate interiors that make you pause just inside the doorway.

Inside, it's all high ceilings and stained glass that throws coloured light across the pews when the sun's right. The mosaics and carved stonework reward a slow wander, though it's not a place for a lengthy visit unless you're genuinely into ecclesiastical architecture. Expect twenty minutes to half an hour browsing if you're thorough.

The church itself is free to enter during open hours, though exact times aren't always listed online - worth ringing ahead or checking the notice boards. Armagh's small enough that you can combine this with a stroll through the Georgian streets, or pop over to Markethill just a few kilometres away if you're exploring the wider area.

Families with restless children might find it a bit dull, but anyone with an interest in Irish religious heritage will appreciate the scale and craftsmanship. The spires alone are worth photographing from the approach road - proper commanding presence that tells you something about the importance of this place.
