St Oswald's Church

St Oswald's Church sits quietly in Burford, one of those proper medieval Cotswold churches that sneaks up on you with its sheer beauty. The stone is the colour of honey, the churchyard full of old tombs listing at angles, and inside there's enough carved detail to keep you looking for half an hour if you're into that sort of thing. Saxon foundations, medieval rebuilds, the lot - it's the real deal, not a theme park version of history.

It's free to pop in, and you won't need more than 45 minutes unless you're doing serious brass rubbing or photographing every arch. The church works best as part of a slow morning in Burford itself - the high street is worth wandering, there are decent cafes, and you can easily kill a couple of hours without trying. History types will genuinely enjoy it. Families with small kids might find the graveyard interesting for 20 minutes, then everyone's ready for a walk or lunch.

If you're staying at Wysdom Touring Park, Grove Farm Glamping Pods, or Burford Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite - all within a couple of miles - St Oswald's is an easy leg-stretch from your pitch. It's one of those places that reads better in person than it does on paper, all quiet stone and local names on the walls. Not essential, but if you're in Burford for a few days, absolutely worth the 20-minute wander.
