St Mylor's Church

The walk down to St Mylor's Church catches you off guard. You're expecting a typical village churchyard, but instead you find yourself threading through woodland that opens suddenly onto the Carrick Roads - proper jaw-dropping on a clear day. The church itself dates back to the 15th century, all grey stone and solid Cornish build, sitting a stone's throw from the water's edge.

Inside, it's quiet and genuine. No crowds, no gift shop theatre. There's a peaceful churchyard where you can actually hear yourself think, which counts for something these days. The walk itself - maybe 20 minutes from the main road through the woods - is worth doing twice, especially if you're based at Trethem Mill Touring Park just up the road.

Historically minded visitors will get something from it; the building's old enough to matter and sits in one of those corners of Cornwall that feels genuinely removed from the tourist trail.
