St Michael & All Angels

The churchyard at St Michael & All Angels sits on a slope overlooking the Wye Valley, which alone makes the walk worthwhile. This is Disraeli's church - the Victorian Prime Minister worshipped here when he lived at nearby Hughenden Manor, and you'll find his memorial inside. It's a proper working parish church, not a museum piece, so there's real life happening in here rather than just tourists shuffling through.

The building itself is largely Victorian but sits on much older foundations. The interior has genuine character - decent stained glass, some proper craftsmanship in the woodwork, and that particular smell of old churches that either appeals to you or it doesn't. Disraeli devotees will want to spend time here; casual visitors might give it twenty minutes and move on. Kids won't get much from it unless they're already interested in 19th-century politics, which let's be honest, most aren't.

It's free to look around during daylight hours, though opening times aren't published so turning up when you fancy it is a bit of a gamble. The churchyard itself is peaceful enough for a wander. If you're camping at Bella Vista or Home Farm nearby - both solid four-star sites around five miles out - this makes a reasonable rainy-day diversion or a gentle walk from Marlow town centre. Don't make it your main event, but if you're in the area, the views from the approach are worth the detour alone.
