St Michael & All Angels

The church sits quietly on the edge of Bude, a proper working parish church that's been doing its job for centuries without any fuss. St Michael & All Angels has that solid, unshowy Cornwall feel - granite walls, a tower you can spot from the coast path, and the kind of peaceful churchyard where time moves differently.

Inside it's all vaulted ceilings and Victorian restoration work, which matters if you care about that sort of thing. The real draw isn't Instagram moments though - it's the sense of place. Walk in and you're standing where countless Bude residents have marked births, weddings, and burials. The stained glass is decent rather than dazzling, and the interior has real character without trying too hard.

History buffs will appreciate the medieval bones beneath the 19th-century tidying up. Families with younger kids might find twenty minutes enough unless they're particularly keen on churches. Walkers heading along the coastal paths often pop in by accident and end up staying longer than expected.

If you're based at Wooda Farm Holiday Park - which is excellent, by the way - the church is barely a mile away. Atlantic Surf Pods is similarly close. Both make decent bases for exploring Bude properly, and the church gives you a genuine sense of how people actually live here rather than just the seaside-resort version.

Access is straightforward and free. Go early morning or late afternoon if you want it quiet. It's the kind of place that rewards a slow, aimless visit rather than rushed ticking-off.
