St. Mary's Church

The church sits quietly on the edge of Henley-on-Thames, a solid stone presence that rewards a proper look if you're staying at any of the caravan parks scattered around the area - Swiss Farm, Hurley Riverside, or Queens Acre are all within a few miles. St. Mary's is the kind of place that makes sense to visit on a rainy afternoon or as a brief stop between riverside walks rather than a destination in itself.

Inside, you'll find the typical trappings of an English parish church: medieval stonework, a handful of monuments, and that particular smell of old wood and stone that seems to exist in every church from here to Cornwall. The chancel and nave are what you'd expect from a Thames-side parish - nothing ostentatiously grand, but genuinely old and reasonably well-maintained. Free entry, naturally, and no faffing about with opening times - just turn up during daylight. Worth a detour if you're exploring Henley itself, but don't rearrange your holiday plans around it.
