The church sits tucked away in Plymstock, a village that's basically been swallowed up by Plymouth's southern sprawl, yet somehow retains a proper sense of quiet. St Mary & All Saints is the sort of parish church you stumble upon rather than plan for - medieval bones with later additions, the kind of building that tells you as much about the people who've worshipped here for centuries as any guidebook could.

Inside, the light's lovely on a decent day, filtering through windows that aren't flashy but have genuine character. The tower's a landmark if you're navigating the village, and the churchyard itself is worth a wander if you've got ten minutes - old graves tell stories, and there's usually someone tending the flowers who'll chat if you look interested.

It's not a detour if you're staying at Hidden Hill Devon - that glamping spot's only a few miles up the road - and makes a decent break from the park itself. Families with kids won't get much out of it unless they're into brass rubbings or spotting gargoyles, but if you're interested in how ordinary English parishes have evolved, or you just fancy a moment of peace away from holiday crowds, it's well worth the short trip from Plymouth. No admission charge that I'm aware of, and you can pop in most days.
