St Margaret's

St Margaret's sits on the edge of East Grinstead, a proper medieval church that's been standing since the 15th century. The interior is genuinely striking - stained glass that catches the light beautifully, and the sort of wooden beams you can't fake. Worth spending twenty minutes inside, especially if you're interested in religious architecture or just like wandering through old buildings without the crowds.

It's the kind of place that feels lived-in rather than museumed. Local worshippers use it, tourists drop by, and there's no pretension about it. The churchyard itself is peaceful - decent spot to sit if you're passing through East Grinstead on foot.

If you're camping at Wild Boar Wood nearby, St Margaret's makes a solid afternoon excursion. Nothing exhausting about it, just a gentle walk into town to see something that actually matters to the area rather than a manufactured attraction. Most people spend an hour here maximum, which fits nicely between campsite breakfast and whatever else you're doing in Sussex. Free to enter as far as I can tell, though leaving a donation seems fair if you spend any real time in there.
