St Leonards Church, Mundford

The flint-and-stone tower of St Leonards dominates Mundford's village centre, visible from across the flat Norfolk landscape. Step inside and you're met with that particular quiet that only old churches manage - this one dates back to the 12th century, though it's been rebuilt and tinkered with ever since. The interior's fairly modest: Victorian pews, some decent stained glass, and enough Norman stonework to remind you this place has been here since William the Conqueror's lot were still settling in. There's an attractive chancel and a handful of monuments scattered about if you're into reading other people's epitaphs. Nothing flashy, but it has genuine character.

History buffs will appreciate the architecture, though you won't spend more than twenty minutes inside unless you're doing serious rubbings and note-taking.
