St Keyne Church

The church sits quietly in its own little valley, about three miles inland from Looe, and it's one of those places that rewards actually getting out of the car. St Keyne dates back to the 15th century, though there's been Christian worship on this spot for far longer - the well beside the church is older still, with its own legend attached.

The walk down to the church takes fifteen minutes or so from the road, through wooded ground. It's gentle enough for families, though younger children might find the path a bit muddy after rain. Give yourself an hour total if you're stopping to look around properly. There's something about the isolation of it - surrounded by trees, away from the main tourist drag - that makes it worth the detour from Looe.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks like Waterside or Tregoad, it's easily combined with a coastal walk or a visit to Looe itself. The church doesn't demand much time, but it's the kind of stop that lingers in memory - especially if you're interested in genuine Cornish history rather than the polished version.
