St John The Baptist

The tower of St John The Baptist rises above Bideford's high street like a proper landmark - medieval stone that's watched over the town for centuries. Inside, it's that particular kind of quiet you only get in old churches, with light falling through decent stained glass and the sort of atmosphere that makes you actually think rather than just glance around.

It's a working parish church, so don't expect a museum experience. What you get instead is the real thing - original features, a genuine sense of place, the kind of building that's been used properly for hundreds of years rather than preserved like a fossil.
