St John & St Thomas Church

The church sits tucked behind Burford's high street, easy to miss if you're rushing through this honey-stoned market town. Inside, it's all soaring medieval arches and light streaming through the windows - the sort of place that makes you actually want to sit down for a bit rather than tick it off a list.

What draws people here is partly the architecture itself, genuinely impressive for a parish church, but mostly the sense of stepping out of the tourist scrum. Burford gets busy with visitors, but St John & St Thomas feels properly peaceful. There are some decent monuments and brasses if you're into that sort of thing, and the chancel has genuine charm.

It's the kind of spot walkers moving between parks will appreciate - Wysdom Touring Park is practically on the doorstep, so it's an easy leg-stretch from your caravan. You won't spend hours here, but thirty minutes wandering round and sitting in the cool interior is genuinely restorative. The town itself has proper pubs and tea shops, so you can make an afternoon of it if you're based at Burford Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite two miles out.

Free to get in, as most village churches are - just be respectful of service times. Go early in the day if you want photos without crowds of other tourists in shot. Not a headline attraction, but if you're staying locally, it's absolutely worth the diversion.
