St James Parish Church Silsden

You'll find St James Parish Church tucked away in the centre of Silsden, a working mill town just south of Keighley, not far off the main drag. It's a proper stone-built Victorian church - all solid Yorkshire grit with a decent bell tower and the kind of interior that rewards a slow wander if you've got half an hour going spare.

The church dates back to the 19th century when the textile industry was booming hereabouts, and you can feel that industrial heritage in the robust architecture. This isn't a destination in itself, be honest. You'd pop in while passing through Silsden - maybe combining it with a walk round the town's mill buildings or grabbing a coffee. Catgill Farm, just under five miles away, gives you a decent base if you're staying put for a few days. The church works fine as a quick detour between there and Keighley's larger attractions. Worth knowing it's free to enter - pop in during daylight hours if the doors are open. Don't make a special trip, but if you're in the area, it's worth twenty minutes of your time.
