St James' Church, Jacobstow

You'll find this little medieval church tucked away in the village of Jacobstow, just inland from Bude, and it's the sort of place that rewards a quiet detour if you're exploring the North Cornwall coast. The building itself dates back centuries - there's proper medieval stonework in the tower, and the interior has that worn, lived-in feel you get from churches that have been doing their job for hundreds of years. The churchyard is peaceful, surrounded by countryside that rolls down towards the coast.

It's not a destination in itself, but if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks - the Camping and Caravanning Club Site is barely a mile away - it's worth a twenty-minute walk to stretch your legs and see how the locals have worshipped since medieval times. The church is small enough that you won't need more than thirty minutes inside, and there's something oddly restorative about the quiet.

Bude itself, a proper seaside town with beaches and proper coffee shops, is close enough for a proper day out, but St James' works better as a gentle mid-morning stroll from your accommodation. The lane towards it is lovely - no major traffic, just fields and the occasional farm. Best to visit during daylight hours rather than late afternoon, simply for the light through the windows. If you're the type who finds peace in old places rather than seeking Instagram moments, you'll get something genuine from it.
