St. Grada and Holy Cross

The twin churches of St. Grada and Holy Cross sit quietly on the outskirts of Helston, two medieval structures that most visitors driving through Cornwall completely miss. They're not grand or showy - just solid, working parish churches with proper history soaked into their walls.

What strikes you first is how they stand together, almost companionable. St. Grada is the older of the two, parts of it genuinely ancient, while Holy Cross sits nearby with its own character. Inside you'll find the sort of details that reward a proper look - carved stone, old fonts, the kind of quiet that makes you slow down. It's the real Cornwall, not the postcard version.

If you're staying at Henry's Camp Site - just a mile or so away - they're worth a morning wander. History buffs will appreciate the medieval stonework and the layered stories, though families with young children might find them a bit static after twenty minutes. There's no entrance fee and no fussy opening hours nonsense, which is refreshing.

The location works well for a park holiday in the area. You could easily visit, then head into Helston proper for lunch, or use them as a quiet counterpoint to busier attractions. They're genuinely free to explore and utterly unpretentious - which, frankly, is becoming rare. Allow half an hour if you're thorough, less if you're just passing through.
