St Giles (Tydd St Giles Parish Church)

The church sits quietly at the heart of Tydd St Giles, a few miles south of Wisbech, looking rather more impressive than you'd expect from a village this size. What catches you first is the tower - proper sturdy medieval work, built to last and still doing the job after seven centuries. Inside, it's all soaring arches and that particular smell of old stone and furniture polish that somehow feels like peace.

This is one for anyone interested in medieval church architecture or simply keen on a bit of genuine Lincolnshire history. The chancel and nave show their age honestly, without the heavy-handed restoration that spoils some parish churches. Worth a morning visit if you're based at Laurel Park Campsite or Delph Bank Touring Glamping, both within easy reach. The Lawns Caravan & Camping site is slightly further but still reasonable. The surrounding Fenland is dead flat, so don't expect dramatic walks, but it's good cycling country and there's something oddly appealing about the big skies and drainage channels. Admission appears free, though it's worth checking locally. Best visited mid-week if you want proper quiet.
