St Georges R C Church

The red-brick Victorian church that dominates the skyline above Scarborough's seafront is unmissable if you're exploring the town on foot. St George's RC Church is proper substantial - the kind of building that tells you exactly what the Catholic community here valued during the 19th century. You can't miss it if you're anywhere near the South Bay.

Inside, it's all high ceilings and stained glass typical of the era. The main draw is architectural rather than theatrical - if you appreciate solid Victorian craftsmanship and don't mind the climb up from the seafront, it's worth twenty minutes of your time. Children won't get much from it unless they're the sort who actually engage with old buildings, but architecture fans will appreciate the detail work.
