St George's

The church stands on the high street in Deal, a solid bit of local history that's impossible to miss. St George's dates back centuries and the interior does reward a proper look round - good proportions, decent stained glass, and that particular smell every old church seems to have that takes you straight back to school assemblies.

It's one of those places that works best if you're already in Deal for the day rather than a specific trip. The town itself is worth exploring, with the seafront just down the road and plenty of independent shops and cafes. If you're staying at Sandwich Leisure Holiday Park or New Beach Holiday Park nearby, it's a straightforward detour on foot or a short drive.

Walkers heading between the seafront and town centre will pass it anyway. The church is free to enter during visiting hours, though I'd recommend checking locally for current opening times as these can be a bit variable at smaller churches. Allow twenty minutes to have a decent look around without rushing.

Honestly, it's not a destination in itself - nobody's getting excited about a weekend trip just for this. But if you're doing the Kent coast thing, stopping by gives you a sense of Deal's real age beyond the holiday atmosphere. It fits naturally into a broader day out rather than being the main event.
