St George's Catholic Church, Worcester

It's a working parish church, so you're visiting a place where people actually worship rather than treading through a museum. That means respect for services and quiet contemplation rather than a tourist spectacle. The interior rewards a slow walk - pick out the detailed tilework, the altar arrangement, the way the light falls through the windows. Photography restrictions apply, as they tend to in active churches.

History enthusiasts will appreciate the craftsmanship on display here. Families with older kids might get twenty minutes out of it before restlessness sets in, but it's not the sort of place you'd bring under-tens expecting entertainment. Walkers combining a town centre stroll will find it easily enough near the city centre, a natural pause on a longer Worcester walk.
