St Elidan's Church, Llanelidan

The drive into Llanelidan takes you down narrow lanes that feel like you've stumbled off the main road entirely - which, frankly, you have. St Elidan's Church sits quietly at the heart of this scattered Welsh village, a medieval structure that's been standing since at least the 15th century, though the site itself goes back much further. The church is small, unpretentious, and genuinely moving in the way that old rural churches often are.

Inside, you'll find whitewashed walls, ancient stone, and a real sense that this is a place locals have used for centuries rather than somewhere dressed up for tourists. The churchyard is worth a proper wander - old gravestones lean at angles, and you get that particular quiet you only find in proper country graveyards. There's a simplicity to it all that feels restful rather than melancholy.

It's the sort of place that works best if you're already in the Ruthin area walking or exploring the Denbighshire countryside. Plan twenty minutes inside and around the church - longer if you're into medieval architecture or just fancy sitting on the bench for a bit. There's no admission charge that we're aware of, though the church may have restricted opening hours, so check before you drive out.
