St David's Chapel

A modest stone chapel tucked into the Carmarthenshire countryside, St David's is the sort of place that rewards a small detour if you're already exploring the area around Carmarthen. The building itself is genuinely old - proper rural Welsh ecclesiastical architecture without the tourist polish you'd get at somewhere more famous. Inside, it's all flagstone floors and whitewashed walls, with that particular kind of silence you only find in small working churches that haven't been turned into holiday lets or tea rooms.

It's not a destination in itself. You won't spend more than twenty minutes here unless you're seriously into church history or stone carving. But that's rather the point. This is a church that exists for the people who live nearby, not for visitors, and there's something refreshing about that. History buffs will find genuine medieval features worth examining, and anyone after a quiet moment away from the car will get one.

The real value comes if you're staying at one of the nearby farms - Church House Farm Getaways is barely three miles away, and several other caravan and glamping sites cluster within five or six miles. Pop in on the way to or from Laugharne or Carmarthen town. Bring a camera for the exterior stonework if you're into architectural photography, but don't expect facilities. There's no visitor centre, no gift shop, no information board worth reading. It's just a chapel. That's enough.
