St Chad's Church

The 12th-century church sits quietly on the edge of Leamington Spa, easy to miss if you're not looking for it. St Chad's is one of those places that rewards the small detour - proper medieval architecture with enough character to keep history enthusiasts engaged for a good half hour, though casual visitors might find it a bit brief.

Inside, you'll find the usual suspects of an old English parish church: stone arches, some decent stained glass, and that particular smell of old wood and stone that takes you straight back. The chancel's worth a proper look, and if the light's right through the windows, it's genuinely lovely. Families with young kids might struggle unless they're into spotting gargoyles and counting roof beams - it's not the sort of place with interactive exhibits or anything.

The best bit is stepping outside again and realising how much quieter the world feels. It's a working church, so check ahead before turning up, but generally access is straightforward and free. Allow half an hour, maybe longer if you're the type to read every memorial plaque.

If you're based at Newlands Caravan Park just up the road, this makes a decent morning walk before heading into town proper. Doesn't demand much time, doesn't require planning, just a peaceful ten minutes from Leamington's busier streets. Worth seeing if you're in the area, though wouldn't necessarily drive miles for it alone.
