Leam Valley Local Nature Reserve

The Leam Valley Local Nature Reserve sits right on Leamington Spa's doorstep, and it's the sort of place that rewards a proper explore rather than a quick pass-through. You're walking alongside the River Leam through a mix of woodland and open grassland, with paths that loop around depending on how much time you've got. The river itself is the real draw here - it's genuinely peaceful, especially early in the day before the town noise creeps in.

This is walker territory first and foremost. If you're after dramatic views or major attractions, you'll be disappointed. But if you want somewhere to stretch your legs without driving miles from your caravan, it works well. Birdwatchers get something out of it too; you'll spot kingfishers along the water if you're lucky and patient. Kids will manage it for an hour or so, though it's not the sort of place that grips their attention for a full afternoon.

The reserve is free to access, and there's no set opening hours - it's the sort of place you turn up and walk when it suits you. Allow between 45 minutes and two hours depending on which paths you take. It's ideal if you're based at one of the nearby parks like Knight's Village at Warwick Castle or Harbury Fields Farm Caravan Park. On a decent day it's worth combining with a visit into Leamington Spa itself, which is close enough that you could easily do both. The walk works best in spring and early autumn when the river's properly flowing and the undergrowth isn't too thick.
