St Blane's Church

The walk down to St Blane's Church from Dunblane proper is half the appeal. You wind through proper countryside - fields, hedgerows, the kind of Perthshire landscape that makes you remember why you bothered leaving the motorway. The church itself sits quietly beside the Allan Water, a 13th-century building that's genuinely modest. No great flourishes, no gift shop, just a functioning parish church with decent bones and the kind of weathered dignity you only get from centuries of Scottish winters.

Inside, there's real substance if you're into ecclesiastical architecture. The windows catch light nicely, the stonework is solid without being showy, and you'll find yourself standing there longer than you expect. It's the sort of place where five minutes turns into twenty because there's no rush, no crowds, no pressure to move on. Families bring kids without worry - the churchyard's pleasant for a wander, the river beyond is pretty, and it's genuinely quiet.

This works best if you're already exploring Dunblane or staying at nearby Craighead Howf - treating it as part of a proper walking circuit rather than a standalone destination.
