St Ann’s Chapel Pleasure Piece

The walk down to St Ann's Chapel Pleasure Piece catches you off guard. You're expecting moorland, and instead there's this sudden drop into a proper wooded valley - all oak and beech, with a stream running through the bottom like someone's left a tap on. The chapel itself is more ruin than building, perched above the water, medieval stonework crumbling into the ferns. It's the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think.

The reserve sits just outside Callington, which makes it dead handy if you're based at Sunnyside Eco Glamping up the road. You're looking at maybe forty minutes of walking to get the full circuit, nothing strenuous but it's a proper trek down and back up again, so bring decent shoes. The stream is genuinely lovely in spring when the bluebells come through - locals swear by it.

This isn't a destination for the impatient. Kids under eight might find the walk tedious, though older ones keen on clambering over stones will get a kick out of it. History buffs and serious walkers will genuinely rate it. The real pull is the isolation - there's barely anyone here, which feels increasingly rare. Free to visit, and there's nowhere to eat on-site, so pack something if you're staying longer than an hour. Go early morning when the mist's still hanging in the trees. That's when it actually feels special rather than just being a nice walk.
