St Anne's Church, Baslow

The churchyard sits right on Baslow's main street, and you'll spot the squat stone tower before you've properly arrived in the village. St Anne's is one of those working parish churches that's been doing its job quietly since medieval times - the kind of place where locals still gather on Sundays and the door's usually open to wanderers.

Inside, it's genuinely worth a look. The church holds some proper medieval bits - there's a Norman font that's been here since at least the 12th century, and the chancel arch shows real age. The windows aren't fancy, but they're honest work, and the whole space has that particular peace you only get in old stone churches. You'll spend perhaps twenty minutes properly exploring, longer if you're into the finer points of ecclesiastical architecture.

Baslow itself is only a few miles from Bakewell, which makes St Anne's a sensible stop if you're already in the area hopping between attractions. The churchyard itself is pleasant for a quick wander, and the location means you can easily combine a visit with exploring the village's other bits - there's a decent walk along the river and proper pubs nearby.

Families with young kids might find the interior a touch quiet unless they're genuinely interested in old buildings. Walkers and history types will get more from it. It's free to visit, no faffing about with opening hours - just turn up. The nearby caravan parks, especially Chatsworth just under a mile away, make this a natural inclusion in a Peak District camping trip.
